Beeswax Facts

Beeswax is the only substance known to humankind that, when burned, emits a negative ion. Negative ions circulate the room neutralizing the positive static charges that keep contaminants airborne. When this charge is neutralized, the contaminants-dust, odours, mold, pollen, viruses and other toxins-fall to the floor. The convection current created, via combustion, when the candle burns draws contaminants to the flame where they are deposited into the molten wax surrounding the wick. This causes the wax to darken.

Beeswax produces a multi-level vibration that calms the inner senses. This vibration can be seen in the golden halo surrounding the flame.

Beeswax sweetens the room with the pure scent of honey.

Beeswax candles burn hotter, brighter, longer and cleaner than conventional candles.

Beeswax is non-toxic, and non-carcinogenic.

Paraffin Wax - Paraffin is a greyish-black sludge by-product of the petroleum refining process. To make candles the paraffin is bleached, textured, coloured, and scented using carcinogenic chemicals. When burned, the carcinogens fill the room with toxins that coat the walls, furniture, and the inside of your lungs. Check out the internet for more information on the toxicity and carcinogenic effects of paraffin.

"Breathing fumes from burning paraffin candles is essentially the same as breathing the exhaust fumes from a diesel engine" ~ Bill Reno, Entomologist/Writer

Bee Glow candles are made in Lanark Ontario, Canada.

Candle Burning Tips

NEVER LEAVE A BURNING CANDLE UNATTENDED

Trim the wick to 1/4" before lighting. A short wick produces a smaller, more controlled flame. Never leave wick trimmings in the candle.

Keep your wick centered. To re-center extinguish flame, push a toothpick down along side of the wick then push wick into center of candle.

For 3" diameter candles of larger burn for 2 hours the first time and at least every 3rd or 4th burn to establish a nice melt pool" and ensure optimal burning time for the life of your candle. Your candle may develop a tendency to burn down the middle and not out to the sides if it is not burned long enough each time. Push in side wall of candle as it melts out to the edge.

Keep candles away from open windows, fan, and heat or air-conditioning vents. The blowing air can move the wick and cause dripping wax, increased smoke, and can cause a glass holder to crack if flame gets too close to the holder.

If you experience any difficulty lighting your candle, turn it to a slight angle while lighting to create a "melt pool" and hold until the flame takes on a "life of it's own".

Tapered candles with square cotton wick are self regulating, they do not require any servicing while burning. If candle smolders when extinguished trim any charred wick upon re-lighting. If the wick is too short, the taper might drip until the flame and wick have regulated to the proper length.

Use COMMON SENSE when choosing a holder for your candle. Tea-Lights and Votives, for example, require holders that provide proper airflow. When using a glass container, limit your burn time to 4 hours at once. This will prevent breakage.

To clean most candle holders:

- Heat oven to 200F.
- Fold two paper towels in half and place on an aluminum pie plate.
- Place candle holders upside down onto paper towels in oven for seven minutes.
- Remove candle holder with and oven mitt and wipe clean using 2 or 3 fresh paper towels. This cleaning method works well on any glass, metal or pottery holders. For wooden candle holders heat with hair dryer then use paper towels for wiping.
